MASON
IS WHAT THE HILL COUNTRY USED TO BE! |
Located
in the world renowned "Hill Country" of Central
Texas, the city of Mason was established in the
1850's.
Approximately 1,550 feet in elevation, the city
has a population of 2,122.
Mason is located only a hundred miles from majestic
Austin
(The state capital), a hundred miles from San
Antonio (Home of the famous Alamo), and
about a hundred miles from San
Angelo (A medium sized central Texas City).
|
Mason
is one of the truly authentic western towns remaining
in the State of Texas.
With
the stately Mason County Court House as its hub,
most of the buildings on the town square were built
from native granite during the late 1800's.
Many
old homes and buildings are still in use today,
including Hoffman's Dry Goods Store, the Mason Hardware
Store, the historic Seaquist home as well as one
of the states oldest operating jails.
|
Mason
County, is one of the more scenic areas in Texas.
It is a thriving ranching and farming area, featuring
dramatic granite domes, rolling hills, gentle valleys,
tremendous Oak and Cottonwood trees.
There are abundant wildflowers, including Bluebonnets
(Lupinus texensis) & Indian blankets
(Gaillardia pulchella) explode seasonally.
Several major rivers cross the landscape, dotted
by many artesian springs.
The
Hickory Underground Aquifer supplies major water
needs.
Wildlife,
including White Tailed deer, wild Turkey, Pheasant
& Quail also are plentyful.
